Royal Enfield, the world’s oldest motorcycle company has invited interested parties in Sri Lanka to partner with them to be custodians to a legendary brand in the history of the automobile industry Royal Enfield, a subsidiary of India’s Eicher Motors Limited, has invited prospective dealers in Sri Lanka to partner with them with the objective of catering models such as Royal Enfield’s Bullet 350 Twinspark, Classic 350, Rumbler 350 and Continental GT to retro motorcycle lovers in the country.

Enfield Cycle Company initially made motorcycles, bicycles, lawnmowers and stationary engines under the name Royal Enfield based at Worcestershire, United Kingdom (UK). Use of the brand name Royal Enfield was licensed by the British Crown in 1890.

Meanwhile, in 1955, the Indian government placed an order to obtain 800 police motorcycles with Royal Enfield UK.

This order gave opportunity for Redditch Company, which provided tooling and equipment for Royal Enfield, to partner with Madras Motors in India to form Enfield India.

Despite Royal Enfield UK was dissolved in 1971. Enfield India continued its production even catering to European markets.

In 1994, Eicher Group bought into Enfield India and in late 1995 Enfield India firm acquired the rights to the name Royal Enfield. Royal Enfield of India now sells motorcycles in over 20 countries.
